KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is hoping that the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) capacities will be enhanced under Budget 2019 to empower the training initiative.

“This is because one of the things that I really want to do is to reduce youth unemployment into a single digit (level),” Syed Saddiq told reporters after officiating the InvestSmart Fest (ISF) 2018 here today.

“If we look at other countries, they are able to do so and we must do better in terms of creating more quality jobs for the young people,” he added.

He said the youth unemployment rate previously stood at 13.1% (in 2016) and 10.7% (2017).

Themed “Investing for a Sustainable Future”, the ISF 2018 is showcasing 45 participating organisations comprising capital market intermediaries, regulatory and other agencies.

The three-day event, which offers 600 complimentary financial planning sessions by over 100 licensed financial planners, aims to promote awareness and knowledge on the Malaysian capital market.

The event organiser, Securities Commission Malaysia anticipates 20,000 visitors to attend the annual event.
