Bursa Malaysia higher in early trade

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened higher today with a positive bias after global equities were also higher overnight.

At 9.05am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 5.65 points higher at 1,863.91 from yesterday’s close of 1,858.26.

The index opened 6.52 points higher at 1,864.78.

On Wall Street, the S&P 500 rose 0.4%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.3 per cent and the Nasdaq Composite closed 0.6% higher, while in Europe, the pan-regional Stoxx 600 index, the Xetra Dax in Frankfurt and FTSE 100 in London all rose 0.2% each.

A dealer said the main resistance level for the FBM KLCI today remained at 1,880, with the support level at the 100-day moving average of 1,839.

Among heavyweights, Public Bank was up 20 sen to RM24.70, TNB added six sen to RM15.98, Petronas Chemicals perked 17 sen to RM8.79 and CIMB gained one sen to RM6.86.

Maybank lost eight sen to RM10.78.

For actives, MyEG lost 13 sen to RM1.14 and George Kent eased 12 sen to RM1.82.

Zelan added two sen to 10.5 sen, T7 Global gained five sen to 50 sen and Bina Puri earned 2.5 sen to 37 sen.

The FBM Emas Index went up 42.7 points to 12,993.07, the FBMT 100 Index increased 41.54 points to 12,789.48, the FBM Emas Syariah Index improved 51.59 points to 13,121.79 and the FBM 70 jumped 59.35 points to 15,314.84.

The FBM Ace declined 20.92 points to 5,475.04.

Sector-wise, the Finance Index was 8.889 points higher at 18,383.61 and the Plantation Index increased 16.09 points to 8,028.29.

The Industrial Index slipped 0.56 of-a-point to 3,287.87.

On the broader market, gainers led losers 184 to 83, while 137 counters were unchanged, 1,478 untraded and 20 others suspended.

Volume stood at 152.72 million units valued at RM112.22 million.

The physical price of gold as at 9.30am stood at RM159.38 per gramme, down nine sen from RM159.47 at 5pm yesterday. — Bernama
