PUTRAJAYA: NY Steak Shack (NYSS), a casual-dining restaurant inspired by New York city, plans to expand its halal western food business empire internationally by opening branches in Kuwait and Japan.

Branding General Manager, Muhammad Adam Mah said the restaurant’s business concept had attracted businessmen from Kuwait and Japan during their recent visit to Malaysia.

“We aim to penetrate both markets before year-end,” he told reporters after receiving the halal certification from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) at the restaurant’s Putrajaya branch here, today.

The certificate was presented by Jakim’s Halal Hub Assistant Director of Industrial Relations Unit (Corporate Communications Division), Mohd Safzan Muhd Mukhtar, who said the certificate was valid for two years.

NYSS is the first steakhouse restaurant chain in Malaysia to be accorded Jakim’s halal certification

Muhammad Adam said the certification made it easier for the company to penetrate the international market, especially in those countries which prioritise halal food.

“Jakim’s halal certificate is internationally recognised and all 10 of NYSS’ outlets are now halal certified, an important aspect for steak lovers,” he added.

The restaurant chain uses meat imported from Australia.

NYSS had been only operating in the Klang Valley since starting in 2014, and aims to open three new outlets, in Melaka, Johor and Pahang this year. – Bernama
