MESRA Card members just need to spend a minimum of RM100 per month at any Petronas station across the nation to receive the Mesra Personal Accident benefit at only RM1.

If this is not a great deal, what is? Especially appropriate during this festive time when expenses are higher than usual and many will be traversing their “balik kampung” journeys; the promotion has already been in effect since Feb 5.

In short, all you need to do is to get a Mesra Card from any Petronas station, spend RM100 to earn Mesra Points and register for the plan at only RM1 or 100 Mesra points. Card members, who register before Feb 28, will receive complimentary Mesra PA coverage for the first month.

The plan provides worldwide 24/7 protection and includes Accidental Hospital Income of RM50 per day (maximum 30 days, per accident). In the event of the unfortunate passing or permanent disability of the card member in an accident, the family or next-of-kin will be entitled to a cash benefit of up to RM25,000 (increased to RM50,000 if the accident occurs on a public holiday). A signing ceremony between Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB), Shieldcard Holdings Sdn Bhd and Zurich General Insurance Malaysia Berhad (ZGIMB) was held on Feb 5.

Speaking at the event, PDB head of retail business Aadrin Azly said: “Being in the business of fuelling our customers everyday journey, road safety is naturally of highest concern and something that is close to our hearts.” He said by signing up for the Mesra coverage plan, members will automatically be registered as Axxess member, in which they are able to earn Axxess points from participating merchants such as Cold Storage, Giant and Mercato, plus utilise the points for rebate on annual motor insurance premiums.

In addition to the Personal Accident coverage, Mesra Card members will also get to enjoy benefits via online shopping platforms like Shopee, Zalora, Lazada, 11street, Grab, AirAsia, KFC, McDonald’s, Starbucks and other merchants.

Shieldcard Holdings executive chairman Tunku Laxamana Tunku Datuk Seri Utama Naquiyuddin Tuanku Ja’afar said that the Axxess programme was introduced at the end of March 2017 and has been in operation since August last year.

He said the objective is to leverage on the individual’s daily spending habits to provide a solution for the escalating cost of insurance, specifically the rising cost of private healthcare and the uncertainty of motor insurance premiums, especially as the industry begins to liberalise and detariff rates. “Our goal was simple; how can we provide critical insurance benefits at significantly reduced or at no cost to individuals who remain loyal to a limited number of merchants,” Naquiyuddin explained. “The programme is collectively crafted to both protect and benefit Mesra Card members and their loved ones,” he added.

All Mesra Card members opting for the benefit will automatically be enrolled for the Axxess programme earning them Axxesspoints. “The earned Axxesspoints can be used to reduce or pay in full, members’ motor insurance premiums, (which is) yet another essential benefit for all Mesra Card members who are essentially vehicle owners,” said Naquiyuddin.

Zurich CEO David Fike said the programme is an ideal way for Mesra Card members to get the protection they need without incurring additional cost. The event held at Menara Zurich concluded with “lou sang” tossing by Aadrin, Naquiyuddin and Fike.
