Malaysia’s exports growth slows to 4.7% in Dec 2017, trade surplus narrows to RM7.3 billion

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s exports growth moderated year-on-year (yoy) to 4.7% to RM79.3 billion for December 2017, supported by the electrical and electronic (E&E) products segment.

Imports expanded 7.9% yoy to RM72.1 billion.

Total trade stood at RM151.4 billion for December 2017, representing a 6.2% growth compared with the same month in 2016. However, it posted a decrease 3.6% compared with the previous month.

The trade surplus for December 2017 declined 19.% yoy to RM7.3 billion. It also dropped 27.2% compared with November 2017.

For the whole of 2017, total exports saw an increase of 18.9% to RM935.4 million, while total imports rose 19.9% to RM838.1 million. Total trade surpassed RM1.7 trillion in 2017.
