KUALA LUMPUR: SAP Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the local arm of New York Stock Exchange-listed software developer, SAP SE, foresees greater opportunities ahead for the technology sector as the government’s Transformasi Nasional 2050 (TN50) initiative takes shape.

SAP Malaysia new managing director Duncan Williamson said 2017 had been a landmark year for Malaysia, with the government launching a number of key initiatives and announcing several major plans to transform the country’s digital economy.

“I applaud the government’s vision to enhance Malaysia’s reputation as a regional digital hub.

“The next few years promise to be exciting for Malaysia’s digital economy, and I am looking forward to collaborating with the government, our customers and partners in the country as we write the next chapter for Malaysia’s digital transformation,” Duncan told NST Business recently.

An 18-year SAP veteran, Duncan assumed his current position earlier this year and is responsible for leading and driving business growth and operations for Malaysia, building on SAP’s success and presence over the past 25 years in the country.

In November last year, NST reported on how the SAP HANA. the high performance analytic appliance platform, had been gaining momentum in Malaysia as enterprises seek out ways to drive greater productivity and operational efficiencies.

Among enterprises which had embraced SAP HANA are Pharmaniaga Bhd, Khazanah Nasional Bhd’s wholly-owned subsidiary Cenviro, together with publicly-listed DKSH Holdings Bhd and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd.

SAP HANA is an in-memory computing platform that has completely transformed the relational database industry in recent years.

It combines database, application processing, and integration services on a single platform.

The same architecture also provides libraries for predictive, planning, text processing, spatial, and business analytics.
