Ringgit closes higher against US Dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit snapped yesterday’s losses to close higher today against the US dollar on higher demand for the local currency amid renewed tension in the Korean peninsula.

At 6pm, the local unit was quoted at 4.1900/9400 against the greenback from Tuesday’s close of 4.2060/2090.

A dealer said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak’s visit to the US also sent a positive signal to the market which helped lift confidence in Malaysia’s economy.

Among major currencies, the ringgit was traded higher.

The ringgit perked against the Singapore dollar to 3.1127/1166 from 3.1244/1275 on Tuesday and vis-a-vis the pound, it went up to 5.5580/5650 from 5.5763/5820 yesterday.

The local note improved versus the yen to 3.8063/8106 from 3.8341/8372 on Tuesday and was better against the euro to 5.0158/0219 versus 5.0304/0352 yesterday. — Bernama
