KUALA LUMPUR: Despite whatever political noise out there, Malaysia is still attracting investors and this is demonstrated by the presence of 13 ambassadors as well as 21 representatives at the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) this morning.

“There are of course still interest in investing here in this country despite concerns in regards to 1 Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB). But investors confidence is still there as the country’s fundamentals continue to be strong,” said chief executive officer (CEO) of InvestKL, Datuk Zainal Amanshah.

“This confidence is demonstrated right here by the ambassadors who are visiting the TRX site today. These are dignitaries from the likes of the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, New Zealand, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, China and Japan.”

He explained that the purpose of this morning’s visit is for the ambassadors themselves to experience the world class facilities that both the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and TRX offers.

In fact, Zainal explained, most of these countries have already in one form or another are already involved in the MRT and Light Rail Transit (LRT) so it’s good that they have come to see it.

For the uninitiated, InvestKL is tasked by the Malaysian government to attract 100 of the world’s largest multinationals to invest in the Greater Kuala Lumpur area by 2020.

As such Zainal have for the most part, been in the discussions in bringing in more foreign investment into the TRX.

“Our strategic position in Asean and multilingual talent remains attractive factors for the investors come here,” he said.

“The oil and gas (O&G) sector have been challenging but we have seen at least seven companies from within the sector moved here in the last 12 months. Asean is a big market so you do see fast moving supply chain with companies moving their goods.

“Zainal said that there have also been talks of making TRX as a digital hub but nothing has materialize as of yet. When approached, CEO of TRX, Datuk Azmar Talib refused to comment but did say that TRX will be announcing some new updates next week.
