Deserved help for underprivileged families

KUALA LUMPUR: Eleven underprivileged families were given assistance to alleviate their burden, when they were invited for a groceries shopping session.

Residents from the Kampung Muhibbah PPR were taken to the Scott Garden Tesco outlet for their shopping.

Cognizant of the fact that some of the participants are senior citizens and there are some who are disabled, the services of volunteers was provided to lend a helping hand in assisting the families throughout their shopping session.

The programme, entitled ‘Shopping Buddy Programme’ is a monthly programme aimed at underprivilliged families, is organised by the Great Vision Charity Association.

Norliah binti Bakar, a physically disabled participant of the programme expressed her gratitude for being selected to join the program. It was a rare opportunity for some of the participants to step foot out of their house due to their lack of mobility.

The association representative, Ms Chor Mun Yan said: “These participants come from different poverty backgrounds and some were in dire straits, based on assessment that was done for selection for this program.”

“We hope to reach out to more needy families and we aim to lessen the household burden of these families.” she said

After the shopping session, the families were invited to enjoy luncheon at the shopping mall’s foodcourt before being chauffeured back to their homes by the volunteers.

“The family that I assisted were very careful of the budget spent on groceries, it made me think twice of being grateful and appreciative for the things I have in life,” said Ms Tee Kee Shuen, one of the volunteers who participatred in the programme.
